6 Career Hacks that never Fail!

Career has never been a straight line or a cake walk for anyone. It’s always been a rollercoaster which comes to an equilibrium (with some on going spikes) after a great  amount of investment of time, energy & resources.

First, you need to figure out the Big Question: “What should I do with my life?,” “What do I really want to pursue?”

Once you’ve got that figured, to ease that rollercoaster ride a bit, here are some career hacks to adhere to which may make this journey worthwhile:

  1. Learn to tell your Story

Make your resume an interesting read. Your resume is the most important document in your job search. It’s an employer’s first glimpse of you. Everybody loves a good story. Nothing sells better than a good story. If an employer will remember you, it’s because he will remember your story. Design a neat & clean resume which a person or a robot (nowadays) can scan through easily. Basically it should be an interesting read.

  1. Try different Internships

Internships are a great way to spend your summer holiday. It gives you a network & perspective that’s completely different from your college. These experiences help one to realize which field they like or can also help to gain knowledge about the real picture of certain fields.

To land into a good internship, begin your research early – by December or so. There are many platforms for internship – like Internshala, Frapp, Letsintern.

  1. Get yourself a Good Mentor

Mentors can play a great role in one’s career. They can give great advice about where you may be stuck. They can help to get ahead where you may be stuck. Also their inputs on decisions at critical stages of your career can be of great value. They can give access to their different networks & can also throw light on different roles to be played by you.

There are various ways to find a mentor: like reaching out to alumni of your college, or getting in touch with somebody you admire while doing internships, or by exploring an online mentoring platform, or by attending conferences and seminars where you may bump into a notable speaker whom you may look upto.

  1. Take help of a Professional Career Coach

A professional career coach can help you identify your core personality, likes, dislikes, strengths, limitations, behavioral patterns, skills, beliefs, fears, understand desired lifestyle, impact of various incidents and people. Also they help to build an aim, vision, and path to go ahead. A hand holding in an in-depth research & planning makes the foundation of a Career Decision much more stronger.

  1. Build Supplementary Skills

Earlier it used to be Microsoft word and excel that used to be a value added skill for people to have on their resumes. Nowadays, it’s a basic mandate. Over and above which digital marketing, programming, a new language or ability to be quick in learning new softwares is going to be the next Microsoft.

Apart from academic skills, being solution-oriented, communication skills, emotional awareness, relationship management, teamwork and creativity are some of the other essential ones to be learned during college years.

  1. Read these books for your motivation

“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go” says Dr Seuss. The books mentioned below are packed with life lessons :

  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
